Dawn Petty has been living and working as an artist in Dallas for over 25 years. She has been profiled in D magazine as an "artist of interest" , and has sculpture or works hanging in collections in Chicago, NY, Arizona, and through out Texas.
Creating amorphous imagery and perception ranging
from common and intuitive views of the beauty in natural environments to the intricate and sometimes less easily confronted human form, and further to those more inspired by less structured and more simplistic ideas that reveal as much about observer as about artist, her expressions bring her audience closer to both and understanding of her inner vision and a recognition of the alternative message that art brings to the observer.
In her words, "artist work, in my view, creates the artist.......there are no preconceptions where the artist is concerned. A painting, sculpture and the vision they present are as much the process of learning which the artist experiences by envisioning the world thru different lenses, as they are a product of teaching or technique".
Dawn has been involved with the Artist in Cellophane for 20 years, which helps bring an inexpensive introduction to beginning a collection in art.
In addiction to murals on exhibit in Dallas and surrounding cities, she works in oils, acrylics, watercolors, clay, glass and other sculpture and painting mediums as well as photography to present her interpretations of the beauty that an open sense of wonder and envisions and encourages evolution. Her photos have been exhibited at the Texas State Fair.
As well as continuing to create new works, she owned and operated a teaching studio, The Artist Within, for almost 20 years before closing her studio to evolve into working with people with special needs from Autism, to anxiety, PTSD, to Alzheimers and Dementia dedicating herself to helping everyone with the desire to explore the limits of their own imaginations to express themselves artistically.
