Thinking in Textures

  • Goldmark Cultural Center 13999 Goldmark Drive Dallas, Texas 75240 United States (map)

The Goldmark Cultural Center’s Ruth Andres Gallery presents “Thinking in Textures”, an exhibition of new paintings and mixed-media works by Goldmark artist Camie Scott.

The exhibition is on display from 29 July 2025 to 10 August 2025. There will be an opening reception for the exhibition on Sunday 3 August 2025, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. The reception is an ideal time to meet the artist and learn about her artwork.

About the Exhibition

Thinking in Textures began with a simple question: What happens if I try this? That question—fueled by curiosity and a healthy dose of trial and error—became the heartbeat of this exhibition.

I work with materials that aren’t always thought of as “art supplies”: spackle, plaster, fabric, sand, MDF, tape. I’m drawn to them not just for what they are, but for what they can become. Each piece is a kind of experiment—sometimes a puzzle, sometimes a surprise—built around texture and the many ways it can shape space, mood, and meaning.

This body of work isn’t about perfection. It’s about play. It’s about testing limits, layering surfaces, and finding beauty in unexpected combinations. My process is hands-on, intuitive, and often a bit messy—in the best way.

With Thinking in Textures, I hope to spark curiosity in others. I want viewers to wonder: What am I looking at? What’s it made of? Why does it feel this way—visually, emotionally? More than anything, I hope you leave with the same sense of discovery that keeps pulling me back to the studio.

About the Artist
As a mixed media artist, Camie Scott explore the relationship between materials, nature, and the human experience. Her work consists of, and sometimes blends, woodworking, various painting mediums and texture to create layered, organic forms that reflect transformation and breakthroughs. She believes that art should invite curiosity and connection, allowing viewers to discover something within themselves. Whether through abstract compositions or textured surfaces, her goal is always to create spaces for reflection, dialogue, and creative exploration.
