About the Exhibition
Where do our artistic inspirations spark from? It started in my youth.
My Great Great Grandmother Tuchscherer brought to Wisconsin from Germany, a large beautiful pewter and enamel pot. Mother said it was for hot chocolate. What child would not want to believe that? My large “Chocolate Pots” are also inspired by two ceramic artists: Michael Sherrill and Haynes Bayless.
At age 11, the biography of Auguste Rodin started a life long fascination in hands. Those hands! Wonderfully expressive hands of Pierre de Wissant, standing in the “Burghers of Calais”. Giving hands, taking hands, touching hands, healing hands, pleading hands. We express and create with our hands.
My hand-built ceramic pieces center on clear, strong shapes. I work with coils and slabs to begin the process. With the careful use of added forms, textures, and glaze, I raise the question: Sculpture or function?
Exploring this medium, researching and learning new ways to use clay, I’m always learning, continually testing my own skills. Offering up my finished pieces to the collecting public, there is hope, those viewing will value creativity and add one of my pieces to their collection.
