About the Workshop

At one point or another, every exhibiting artist needs to take photos of their artwork or art exhibitions while they are on display for documentation and promotion, but not every artist has access to a good quality DSLR camera to document their artwork.

If you’re not an artist yourself, maybe you’ve been to great art exhibitions and tried to photograph them with your phone, with disappointing results that don’t do justice to the amazing artwork you experienced in person.

Abbigail will be teaching everyone how to use your ordinary phone camera to take quality photos of artwork in an exhibition or gallery setting. With just a few simple tricks and setting adjustments, even a regular phone camera can produce artwork and exhibition photos that seem like they came from a more expensive DSLR camera.

We will have a wide variety of framed and unframed 2D artwork and 3D sculptures to practice photographing in the Goldmark Cultural Center’s 4 main galleries.

The workshop is free to attend, but bring your own phone with camera so you can learn and practice along the way!

About the Artist

Abbigail Quillen is a photographer in Dallas who utilizes historical processes to make accessible fine art. Her work is about grief over time, the elusivity of memory, and the power of mental processing. She’s opening a darkroom and alt lab to keep these practices alive and writes fantasy novels in her spare time.
