Social event for Goldmark artists and friends:
After years of talking about how fun it would be, we are finally hosting our first ever Goldmark movie night!
Join us from 8:00pm - 9:00pm next Friday 6/12 or Saturday 6/13 in the Goldmark Cultural Center's outdoor courtyard area for this free social event for Goldmark artists and friends! Bring snacks, drinks, and come prepared for an outdoor film screening like nothing we've done before!
For our inaugural movie night, we are featuring a 20-minute episode of the 1980s sitcom "It's A Living", which originally aired on February 25, 1989 (Season 6, Episode 16).
A strange choice, you might think, but there's actually an unlikely connection to the Goldmark artist community. The guest star of this corny sitcom episode is none other than Goldmark artist Kirk Sisco!
Although many of us know him as a versatile oil painter who works in landscapes and portraiture, Kirk also had a career as a commercial art director and as an actor in theater, films, and TV prior to retirement.
(Don't believe it? Check out his IMDb page! Kirk's best known acting role was in the 1986 cult-classic "Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2", which is something we'll be saving for a future movie night!)
After retiring to become a full-time artist, Kirk joined the Goldmark artist community in 2021 and if you've explored around enough, at some point you have probably seen some of his paintings in the hallways or visited his studio in Building 13999!
The sitcom episode we are screening is just 20 minutes long. Afterwards, Kirk will take our questions and share his personal stories and experiences from working on this production. We'll hear from Kirk about what it was like to be an actor in Hollywood and the TV industry in the 1980s, which might be more interesting than the episode itself.
Future movie nights
If you like the idea of regular Goldmark movie nights and want to get involved in organizing them, let us know! (*please get involved, you don't want us to keep screening corny old sitcom episodes!)
Movie nights have been floated as an idea by many of you over the years, and we're sure that you and your fellow Goldmark artists can come up with a good variety of formats and selection for movie nights as a recurring hang-out/social event. We could have a system for voting on featured films, have a screening of several nominated short films in one night, or even showcase animations and video art created by members of the Goldmark artist community.
We have the space, the projector, and the sound setup. All we need are the Goldmark artists and the films!
