What is an Art Walk?
An Art Walk is a weekend-long open-studios event for the Goldmark artist community that is open to the public and free for visitors to attend. We organize 3 Art Walks each year: Spring, Summer, and Holiday/Winter.
During each Art Walk, the Goldmark Cultural Center is opened to visitors who will visit all the Goldmark artists' studios in order to tour your workspaces, view your artwork, talk to you about your art, and hopefully purchase/commission artwork from you. Each Art Walk is like a combination of an open house and an art fair, where your entire studio serves as your table or booth.
The Art Walk is a dedicated sales and exposure opportunity for the entire Goldmark artist community, and it is a good time for you to sell and promote your own artwork. If you prefer not to sell any of your artwork, you can treat the Art Walk more like an open house or studio tour event, where you just display your artwork for the visitors, showcase your art studio to them, and talk to them about your work.
In addition to all the open studios, the Art Walk also features the Goldmark art galleries' exhibitions plus some hands-on art activities and demos for visitors of all ages and interests, which incentivizes visitors to check out artists' studios in all of the hallways of the Cultural Center.
We typically enjoy a turnout of around 1000 visitors over the course of each 2-day Art Walk. The visitors are always very nice, easy to please, and well behaved. Most of the visitors are local artists, art enthusiasts, and even art collectors who are very interested in meeting and networking with the Goldmark artists, and in purchasing original artwork and prints/merch.
There is no commission collected from any artwork you sell from your studio, though we do collect a small event fee from all the Goldmark artists to pay for the Art Walk event advertising and promotion.
All Goldmark artists are required to participate in the Art Walk by opening their studio for at least a few hours on 1 day of the 2-day event, since the event does not work well with a low number of participating artists.
You can apply for an exemption from participating in case of extenuating circumstances, and we always waive the cost of the participation fee for artists who cannot afford to pay the fee for any reason. Unless you have a very good reason, you are not allowed to apply for a participation exemption 2 times in a row.
If you don't make an effort to participate in the Art Walks (ie, skipping without applying for exemption), you will not be in good standing with us.
Just ask if you have any questions about how the Art Walk event works.
