“Born in KENTUCKY, I MOVED to Dallas in 1974. I taught at Brookhaven college for 46 years. I have been a member of Goldmark Cultural Center for 8 years. I have exhibited my work in 4 shows at Goldmark. I am very pleased with the support over the years at the Goldmark community. It’s a great place to have a studio.” - Don Taylor
ART STATEMENT:
“This work is based on the use of color STUDIES. The BALANCE of PLACEMENT of SHAPES and LINES, CREATING UNITY in the COMPOSITIONS.” - Don Taylor
ROBERTO D. ROMERO
ART BIO:
“I took classes over at Brookhaven college, where I was introduced to the Holga camera and film processing, and alternative photographic methods that I continue to use in my art work.
I have exhibited my work at the Latino Cultural Center, The Bath House Cultural Center, and the 214 show Dallas at the Oak Cliff Cultural center. I have exhibited my work at Goldmark, one solo show and once with Don Taylor.” - Robert D. Romero
ARTIST STATEMENT:
“Look up! Is a photographic series created with my HOLGA camera. The HOLGA camera with its simple meniscus lens introduces VIGNETTING, BLUR, LIGHT LEAKS and OPTICAL IMPERECTIONS. These distortions are not flaws but active collaborations in the photographs.
During the film processing , I accidently measured the chemicals at half the required strength, resulting in unexpected tonal shifts and surfaces.
Irregularities- A happy accident that transformed the photographs. Together, with the HOLGA camera limitations and film processing error produced photographs that feel unstable and apocalyptic.” - Robert D. Romero
