Old Dog, New Tricks

  • Goldmark Cultural Center 13999 Goldmark Drive Dallas, Texas 75240 United States (map)

The Goldmark Cultural Center’s Ruth Andres Gallery presents “Old Dog, New Tricks”, a solo exhibition of new abstract acrylic paintings by Goldmark artist Kirk Sisco.

The exhibition is on display from 3/1 through 3/14. The exhibition reception date/time is still to be determined.

About the Exhibition

My earliest influences were the amazing pen and ink drawings in the Superman, Batman or Spider-Man comics you could enjoy for a dime back in the day.

From there I was super enthralled with the movie poster art from the 1960s that featured the talents of Bob Peak and Bernie Fuchs.

By 1970 I had learned fashion illustration and even made a living at it for a time in the 70s before becoming an advertising agency art director.

Abstract Art was never on my radar. I never even attempted it. Right up until a year ago I remained a devotee of the practice of realism in its various forms.

Then came the shift.

I’m at that age (retirement) that happily allows for indulging in the things for which I never had time before, so I thought, “Why not abstract?”

It took me a year of rewiring my brain to even find a side entrance, my neural pathways were so firmly connected to the methods I had spent decades developing.

Once I did, it was Katie Bar The Door.

Thus, the title of the exhibition, “Old Dog. New Tricks”. Who knew?

About the Artist

Kirk Sisco has lived long enough to reinvent himself several times; starting out in fashion illustration, then art direction, the on to a 35 plus year career as an actor, voice talent and “talking head”, appearing in literally hundreds of training and point-of-sale videos for every kind of client, from Fortune 500 companies to Mom and Pop businesses.

Finally, in retirement, he’s back to his first love, art.

For the past ten years, art and history have been his primary fields of interest and it’s delicious; everybody should be so lucky!
