The Goldmark Cultural Center’s Ruth Andres Gallery presents “Elsewhere”, a solo exhibition of new fine art relief prints by Goldmark artist Jacqueline Smith.

The exhibition is on display from 9/21 through 10/3 with a closing reception on Saturday 10/3 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The reception is a great opportunity to meet the artist and learn from her about her artwork.

About the Exhibition

Elsewhere brings together relief prints shaped by observation, memory, and imagination. The work reflects my ongoing interest in the visual character of a place—particularly architecture, landscapes, ordinary objects, and overlooked details that become meaningful through attention and recollection.

Relief printmaking allows me to distill these subjects rather than simply reproduce them. Through carving, I reduce an image to the lines, shapes, contrasts, and textures that feel essential. What begins as direct observation is inevitably altered by the process, allowing memory and imagination to enter the work.

Across my practice, I return to ideas of place, memory, nostalgia, and the overlooked. Elsewhere is ultimately about the act of carrying places with us—and about how observation becomes memory, memory becomes image, and sometimes image becomes a place of its own.

About the Artist

Jacqueline Smith is a Dallas-based printmaker working primarily in linocut, woodcut, and chine collé from her studio at Goldmark Cultural Center. Raised in West Texas, she maintains a strong connection to its landscape, architecture, and visual culture, which frequently appear in her work. Her practice also draws on everyday objects, personal memories, and places encountered through travel.

In recent years, Smith has expanded her practice through international travel and artist residencies, including residencies in Skopje, North Macedonia, and Finland, outside Helsinki. These experiences have broadened her exploration of place and memory while continuing her interest in the familiar, overlooked, and remembered.
